Many of you have suggested it so here's a thread for my drawings. My main defect is that I'm not too keen on humans and landscapes (which I am exercising on... but not as much as I should) and I just focus on animals and you know, fictional creatures. Click on the images to enlarge them.

My homage to 125 years of Lovecraft:

    And some extras -

Final main dragon design for Zhyx (a novel I was hired for)

    Glaurung:

    Fell Beast (novel version)

A pair of creatures I still reckon are the best drawings I have ever done... done a pair of years ago as a gift to a person (among 4 other drawings which I did not scan before giving them away).

Thanks huol.almightloaflol I've actually corrected the link for that one, now you can see it full size. Never heard of the artist, but a quick google search reveals he's done some incredible stuff, some very very cool.

Oldies but goldies. If you're anything like me the planets have to be aligned for the art bug to strike in such a way that actual stuff gets made. I'm looking forward to your next cycle when the universe permits.

I was actually going to scan some sketches these days. None of you know but I've got two books in the works -- a horror anthology and a novel -- and I'm doing creature work for both.

Yeah, I only draw once in a while, at least the 'serious' stuff -- I sketch continuously. But you know what, I might make another couple of full illustrations like Cthulhu up there. Maybe something for Halloween too.

Currently workin on Eric's book with some creature stuff, that's taking long and is including a pretty sweet big portrait of the main dragon, there's also another big A3 drawing in the works of an alien design I'm doing for a friend which is going to be ready for delivery soon. For those I am experimenting with smooth shading something I've never done before lmao and here are some pieces from my sketchbook:

I'd love to have the patience to draw something like this.

    Thanks people! peg1

Oh thanks! Yeah, I'm particularly satisfied with that drawing. Really want to port my version of the character (a lot of thought went into its design, same one you see in the first drawing I posted here) to a new big full illustration when I have the time for it. Unfortunately many other things slow the art down

    Another Cthulhu

I'm elaborating on the idea of Cthulhu as an old man with excess skin, and the excess skin on the arms imitates the way the robes of a priest hang about

Tried to envision the original space jockey as an alien thing rather than a suit, thought of it as a free-floating being (so the legs are atrophied) with a big phallic tail that would plug into the telescope chair -- making love with his technology. Gave the head a translucent dome since it was inspired by jet pilot helmets

The translucent dome head is brilliant because it totally offsets the goofy elephantine look it would have otherwise, IMO

Yeah that's one of the things I was aiming at, people often saying "it would look like a space elephant" when it doesn't need to. The jockey head is clearly a organic jet pilot helmet with the hose, and if you had a fossil of the original Alien you would see the eye sockets and think it had eyes but it had a dome, so that's how I put it there

Thanks Murph, that means a lot to me feelsgoodman hope I can do a big drawing soon like those you see in the first post

Yeah I thought about that actually! How would you change it? Make the shape subtler?
