I feel like something like that needed to be in the film for the people who haven't been keeping up on things. Wouldn't be shocked if the line itself wasn't even in the final film.

Love what I am seeing so far. The shots of Michael walking around the neighborhood. Jaime Lee Curtis/Laurie in full badass mode, and God that theme gives me chills

So I liked the new film a lot! I thought it was really well made and solid. The story is appropriately simple, there's not a lot of new ideas exactly, but the execution is competent and topnotch. It's a nice counter to H20 in that if Laurie had her shit together for the most part in that one and was trying to get over that mess, here she's this tragic person haunted day to day, and how that behavior affects those around her. But the film in general has quite the well-rounded cast, with odd idiosyncratic moments scattered throughout.

Thought things were going to shit when the doctor turned crazy, but the film quickly gets over that - there is some wonky stuff to be noticed but it doesn't feel like a contemporary horror film with all the typical bullshit associated with that (you'll likely see trailers beforehand with that kind of crap on display, if you know what I mean).

The film has an interesting balance of the 'less is more' aspect of the original with brief spurts of (really satisfying) brutal violence - Michael doesn't fuck around here which is great, while never getting as gross, mean or explicit in tone as the Rob Zombie version. I don't know if classy is the right word, but I thought overall it was a great alternate extension of Carpenter's film.

Top tier movie. Saw this last night and really enjoyed it. Felt like a proper horror movie without the bullshit we've seen in plenty of horror movies in the last 10 years or so.

SATURDAY AM UPDATE: With an estimated $33.3 million on Friday, Universal and Blumhouse's Halloween is on its way to a massive opening and perhaps a new October opening weekend of its own as Universal is already forecasting an $80.3 million three-day debut. That is just enough to top Venom's $80.25 million opening just a few weeks ago and the studio must be quite confident in the film's prospects to come out this early with a forecast that high, though rival studios are already forecasting a performance that tops $81 million. The film received a "B+" CinemaScore from opening day audiences.

    It's good!

But if history decides to repeat itself we'll get a less successful sequel and another remake/reboot/whatever in 10 years time.
