    Sure looked good.
Reminded me of Rogue One visually.
Best part; casting that Matt Damon kid.

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs [2009]
A lot of shots made me think of SOLO, and only in the credits I realized who directed this. I did not know.

    Andrzej Żuławski's Szamanka [1996]

    This movie is amazing!!
Doesn't give a fuck, unless there is fucking, and fucking there is a lot. Did I watch porn? What is porn? I liked that porn.
Anyways, this movie just keeps on giving... head, amongst other things.
Since Żuławski movies are pretty much indescribable here's a gif.

    Hereditary

Starts off promising and even manages to do something unexpected... and then gets progressively dumb. I feel like the film should have zoned in on processing grief and should have handled the cult aspect a lot better. It's not scary or disturbing, it's just silly.

Big Predator post for anyone patient enough

    Predator (1987)
How fucking cool is this movie?

It’s one of those movies I remember watching with my dad on TV (usually on AMC) all the time as a kid, but for the longest time I only ever saw bits and pieces out of order. When I first saw the film all the way through, with Arnold on his own against the Predator at the end, it blew my fucking mind, especially when the Predator takes his mask off.

A great cast, an iconic creature design, a phenomenal score… John McTiernan was on a roll with this, Die Hard and Hunt for Red October. I also greatly enjoy his Die Hard with a Vengeance, the only sequel in that series worth anything. Speaking of…

    Predator 2 (1990)
I always thought this was a sorely underrated sequel, but never realized how fucking weird and crazy it is, even compared to the first one – it has such a chaotic, Verhoeven-ian tone to it, you half expect RoboCop to show up at the crowded police station at the start.

More than anything watching this you realize how further sequels are sorely lacking Jim and John Thomas, Alan Silvestri, the late Kevin Peter Hall and Stan Winston – I’m genuinely surprised Legacy Effects haven’t been asked to do an Alien/Predator film.

    Alien vs. Predator (2004)
I can give the movie points for the scope and scale it’s trying to achieve, but it is ultimately very underwhelming and schlocky. Now, I’m sure AVP as a concept is schlocky to most people, but I think you could make a genuinely well made, entertaining movie out of it, just not with the director of Mortal Kombat and Resident Evil.

Another thing worth commending is the movie taking its time to get us to like the characters, but there are just too many and it’s easy to point out where roles could have been combined or simply excised entirely.

    More questionable creative decisions -
PG13 – Isn’t an R-rating one of the main features of the Alien/Predator series, why it has such a niche/cult following and sets it apart from another big sci-fi franchises like Star Wars/Star Trek?

Prequel – Why go through the trouble of having to figure out where things lineup? You're just making it harder for yourself. Aren’t the comics set in the future anyway? Was a spaceship or alien planet really more expensive than Antarctica and a secret underground temple?

Set on Earth – If being a prequel wasn’t backwards enough I guess Aliens on Earth didn’t seem like a dumb decision either, even though previous films made such a big deal about them ever reaching Earth

In Antarctica – A nod to Lovecraft or did they forget Predators like to hunt it hot, humid environments? Both?

In a secret underground temple – Why’s the 'father of modern robotics' so obsessed with a temple? Why assemble a costly team of international experts when you could send in a rover with a camera first?

No Predalien – You think this would be the natural choice for the film’s final boss, something new audiences would really like to see, but I guess not.

Now, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t enjoy the sight of an Alien and Predator fighting like big rubbery movie monsters, throwing each other through stone columns and shit, but that’s about it, aside from maybe the score and Lance Henriksen (who I’d watch in just about anything).

    Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem (2007)
A good indicator of where this movie is heading begins with the opening title, which you can barely fucking read.

Practically everything about this movie is wrong. It feels like it was made by people who have only read about movies, and have never interacted with real people before. I love blood and gore and all that, but in an attempt to make up for the previous film’s rating, it comes across as mean spirited, cruel and ugly (Kill the hunter and his kid! Kill the pregnant ladies! Kill the objectified girlfriend!).

Just about the only thing I did like was the Wolf Predator going about his business. If the whole movie was just that, maybe I’d like it, because the human characters are complete non-entities, aside from maybe John Ortiz, possibly the unluckiest sheriff in movie history. Robert Joy, another character actor I like a lot, is completely wasted. The score is okay.

It’s shameful to think this is even remotely related to Alien (1979) and the heights that movie reached. AVPR is more like one of those shitty Platinum Dunes horror/slasher remakes. Truly shameful, abysmal garbage.

    Predators (2010)
I’d only watched this once before when it came out (8 years ago, Jesus). I had the same feeling re-watching it as I did the first time - That it starts out fine, the general setup is really cool and promising, the cast is good, etc.

But it either doesn’t explore any of its own ideas all that well, or it drops the ball severely when trying to depict them. For the most part though, it relies far too heavily on callbacks to the original (guy covered in mud yelling ‘Kill me!’, big guy with a mini-gun, silent dude facing off a Predator, etc. etc.) to win over the audience which is simply lame and disingenuous. The movie also wastes Danny Trejo and Laurence Fishburne.

Another thing to point out is how sorry the Predators look, with their big stupid heads and gaping mouths. The Super Predators (or whatever they’re called) are bigger, rubberier dumbasses than even the AVP Preds, and the poor Classic gets so much buildup only to get iced in a fight as underwhelming narratively as the Spino/Rex fight in JP3.

Robert Rodriguez said something about wanting Predators to be to Predator what Aliens was to Alien. Well, he simply failed at that, and I’m sorry to tell him that that movie exists already, anyway – It’s called Predator 2.

If Royce and the classic Predator had made it onto the ship how awkward would have their ride to Earth been?

Also, wow. Predators. A movie that came out in 2010 and was still making extremely casual rape jokes and using the word "faggot."

I fucking loved it, it's insane - the visuals, the chainsaw fight, Nicolas Cage drinking and pouring alcohol on his wounds as he cries in a bathroom in his underwear, it's a massive improvement from beyond the black rainbow. Panos Cosmatos you absolute madman

Make sure you watch this in the cinema to get its full effect, this movie will be wasted on a laptop
