I see people jumping through lots of hoops to defend this film.

    but
"more or less a stunt show spectacular at Universal Studios circa 2049."
Just makes me think.. .that.. it's not a good film.

    I read the cliff notes.

In a world that unironically eats up "The Fast and the Furious" I cannot fathom how we arrived here.

Ventured onto YouTube to see what folks were saying about The Predator

Heard someone refer to the original Predator as the greatest action movie of all time

Backed off of YouTube and may never visit the site again

Speaking of score.... I forgot that Predator 2's score was just Predator's score. And from what I remember, Predators' score was just Predator's score as well. I'll be watching Predators tomorrow as a refresher. help

Seeing this new one over the weekend. helppppp

    What the hell.....
This makes me think that Henry Jackman just wrote a few new pieces and then the rest is just Silvestri's music peppered throughout.

No, the film's production was just such a clusterfuck that they were probably rescoring up to the last minute and there was no time to clear the rights and actually assemble a real album

My brother watched it last night. He told me as he was watching that he was unsure if he was liking it or not. Later he said that it was "stupid as fuck", but I guess a charming kind of "stupid as fuck" lol. He did say that out of all Predator movie appearances (AvP movies count here) he'd rank it as P1, P2, and The P.

aidlol I'll be seeing it tonight or during the weekend, I gotta eat at Wendy's after all and it's merely a few minutes walk from the theater.

I thought it was fun, funny and also kinda terrible. There's a Shane Black movie tucked away between abrasive cuts and studio mandated reshoots, and it's when it hits the style of the director that The Predator is at its best. But it rarely hits its stride and despite a host of endearing characters and genuinely funny exchanges, it ends up a goofy soup of poorly constructed sci-fi nonsense. And I can't stress more that haven't seen a studio film edited this badly and intrusively for years. I struggled to follow the action (and story) for large chunks of this, and I read the fucking script. The issues are both micro (cut-to-cut) and macro (structurally).

I was pumped for The Predator (loved the last trailer) right up until a couple of weeks ago when I began to receive word to lower my expectations enormously. Even doing so, it's a real letdown.

It's one of the best, come on.

    Yeah that's pretty much it.

I liked the cast (although Jake Busey went to waste) and didn't mind the humor, but what little drove the movie seemed like a hodgepodge of overdone sci-fi crap seen in other movies (bigger, genetically enhanced versions of classic creatures, aliens with human DNA for some reason, etc.).

So the big problem for me was that the first, normal Predator was a lot more interesting than the great big one they tried making important, but it's hard to do that when a) they've tried the Super Predator thing before and it was just as lame here as it was then and b) he's this big ugly CG thing that doesn't look as cool as the suit version. There are also some fugly new CG Predator dogs with dreadlocks, err, sensory receptors.

Believe me, I've given ADI plenty of crap before, but they actually do a pretty good job with the normal Predator here, his escape from the facility is one of the film's only highlights, but once they kill him off (you know, like Classic in Predators - deja vu again) and shift to the big hybrid thing the movie doesn't know what the fuck it's doing anymore. Something to do with Predators harvesting human DNA (??) and taking over Earth cause of global warming? And the ending is absolutely fucking ridiculous.

I haven't been keeping up with this, so what did they reshoot exactly? How was the film originally supposed to go?

Another thing, genuine question - can they not use the classic Pred roar anymore or something? Because it's been absent in the last few movies while being in trailers and stuff. The big Pred here uses a bunch of lame stock monster roars.

Mostly being snarky with my comments about the original Predator film. I very much dig it for what it is.

but i honestly genuinely prefer Predator 2
